[COMPLETED] Jefferson Maintenance

11. Oct, 2010

We apologize for any inconvenience, but we will be performing emergency work on the server Jefferson later this evening.  We do not expect any downtime as a result of this work.  However, high load times may occur during the maintenance window.

DATE:  10/11/10 11PM CT thru 10/12/10 2AM CT

UPDATE:  During the maintenance window, it was discovered that two of the RAID drives on this machine were showing signs of failure.  We tried replacing and rebuilding the drives, but our attempts were not successful.  Currently, we’re in the process of restoring all of the accounts from a backup onto a new machine.  Accounts are being restored in alphabetical order.  The system is currently processing accounts beginning with the letter “m.”  We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.

[RESOLVED] Washington Not Responding

19. Sep, 2010

Washington has stopped responding.  A reboot is currently taking place.  Please stand by for an update.

(7:05PM CT)

UPDATE: The server has returned from the reboot and services are coming back up as I type.  The mail server and cPanel are back up.  We’re now working on restoring FTP, DNS, and HTTP services.  (7:15PM CT)

UPDATE: Everything appears to be back online.  Our system administration team will look into the cause of the outage shortly.  (7:17PM CT)

UPDATE: At first glance, it looks like this issue was caused by a Linux kernel panic that couldn’t have been avoided.  We’re currently researching the kernel version in an effort to determine whether or not an update is necessary.  Should we need to upgrade the kernel, we will go ahead and post a maintenance alert here shortly.  (7:21PM CT)
